THE GREENHOUSES

Growing up, my dad had 2 acres of greenhouses. We grew thousands of daisies, pansies, and poinsettias. I remember waking up at 5am to transplant giant tray after tray of flowers. It was tedious hard work and I’d look forward to quitting time.

The greenhouses had been in our family since 1889. Its legacy ended with my dad. Dad honestly wanted to be a heavy metal guitarist. After he was done with work, he'd grab his guitar and play for us while my sister sang and I ran around taking pictures. He ingrained it in us to follow our dreams.

I attended the photography program at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I worked with a few high-end photographers and ultimately came home to Maryland just from being poor (and young). Home was really where my own legacy started. I began my wedding photography business, met my husband, and we had a daughter. We live in the heart of Downtown Frederick with our spunky dog and a very colorful home. My husband is a painter, musician, and writer. It means so much to me that our daughter is surrounded by art and I can't wait to see what dreams she chooses to follow.

My dad isn’t with us anymore but his life lives on in photographs, the flowers in my garden, and the way I see the world. I believe no two seasons are the same. No two weddings are the same. There might be another bouquet, sparkly shoes, or the same mushroom ravioli dinner, but there won’t be the same people in one place at the same time ever again. Life simply moves and its moments deserve to be remembered.
