Preparing for your Photoshoot

BE PRESENT

We’ll most likely book your session on a weekday— If you can, take the day off together. Reconnect, listen to your favorite tunes, get ready together. Make a date out of it!

DON’T WORRY

Chat, laugh, and enjoy your partner. Just relax. I am a real person, just like you, and I promise that if you're just being you then you’re doing it right.

IN-BETWEEN MOMENTS

When we're moving from place to place, whether it’s a new pose or location, keep lovin' on one another: hold hands, get cozy, get handsy, whatever! These in-between moments always end up capturing some of your most genuine moments!

INSIDE JOKES

During our session, I might ask one of you to whisper something funny (or serious) to the other person in order to get you laughing and connected (don't worry, I won’t hear you as I’ll be busy concentrating on the photos). Can’t think of something? No problem, I'm pretty goofy and throw a dad-joke at you.

TRUST ME

You might be surprised at some of the prompts I give for those emotional and creative photographs. You might be standing so close to your partner that you get an up close and personal look at their nose hairs. Just trust me, I'm working my magic for you. Leave your inhibitions at home and be confident. I promise you, you're going to love your photos.

Style Guide

BE YOU

This goes for posing, styling, and so much more! Just be you. Don’t overthink it. And, if you’re feeling lost on what to wear, I’m always here to help get your style down pat! When in doubt, you’ll never go wrong with a tee shirt and jeans. Think timeless.

OUTFIT SELECTION

Typically we’ll shoot in one outfit. Compliment what you’re wearing to where we’ll be and consider adding accessories like jackets, jewelry, hats, etc. Think complimentary colors (If we’ll be in the lush woods, a red could be so eye-catching). Shoot me an email if you’re feeling stuck on figuring out the tones with your background.

DO YOUR OUTFITS MATCH THE LOCATION?

Match your outfits to the season and weather that we’ll be shooting in. Think comfy sweater and boots for colder weather or no shoes and breathable clothes for a beach. Maybe a tee and jeans if we’re at home or high-heels if we’re out in the city.

MOVE FREELY

You’ll be interacting with each other for the photo shoot (maybe this means piggy-back rides, going for a twirl, or practicing your first dance). You’ll want to move around easily for authentic images. Consider clothes that are “broken in" and are not too baggy or too tight. You want to be focused on your partner, not fiddling with your outfit.

COLORS + PATTERNS

I’M ALL ABOUT COLOR COMBOS! The tones can make or break a good editing session. I recommend sticking to earthy tones as bright colors can be hard to expose for. Think burnt orange instead of hunting gear orange or mustard yellow instead of crossing guard yellow. Neons in general are really hard to edit.

Don’t wear logos or text and watch out for loud and big patterns— Sometimes it can be too much in photographs. Small and subtle patterns can be the perfect touch. Here are a few of my favorite colors, tones and patterns that work beautifully.

PROPS

Stay clear from cheesy props (unless it’s pizza, because pizza is always a good idea). Think of timeless props– your pup, snuggly blankets, a campfire, canoe, a coffee, a beer.

If you decide to bring your dog, please bring someone to handle them during the moments when we want to just focus on the two of you.

IN-HOME SESSIONS

All of the above applies, but wear less. I’m not saying you should be in your birthday suit, but the photos will look more natural and relaxed if a silky cami and jeans or a fluffy sweater, boy shorts and wool socks . Think cuddles on the couch, making dinner at home or coffee mugs at the breakfast table.

Local Locations

Think about what works for you as a couple. It’s helpful to think of sentimental places that you’re drawn to. What do you like to do in your free time? Do you like beer or coffee? Do you hike or have pets? Do you like lighthouses, pizza, swing dancing, string lights or forests?
