PREPARING FOR YOUR PHOTOSHOOT
I know it's not always possible, but if you can, take the day off together. Reconnect, listen to your favorite tunes, get ready together. Make a date out of it!
Chat, laugh, and cuddle with your partner. Just relax. I am a real person, just like you, and I promise that if you're being you then you’re definitely doing it right.
When we're moving from place to place, whether that's a new pose or a different location, keep lovin' on one another: hold hands, get cozy, get handsy, whatever! These in-between moments always end up capturing you two at your most genuine!
During the session, I might ask one of you to whisper something funny (or serious, heh heh) to the other person in order to get you both laughing (don't worry, I'll be far enough away from you and won't be able to hear it!!). Can’t think of something? No problem, I'm pretty goofy and will gladly do something silly for those laughs.
You might be surprised at some of the prompts I give to get you two feeling all the emotions. You also might be standing so close to your partner that you get an up close and personal show of their nose hairs. Trust me, I'm creating something special for you. Leave your inhibitions at home, be confident, and, I promise you, you're going to love your photos.
THE STYLE GUIDE
This goes for posing, styling, and so much more! Just be you. Don’t overthink it. And, if you’re feeling lost on what to wear, I’m always here to help get your style down pat! When in doubt, you’ll never go wrong with timeless.
Typically we’ll shoot in one outfit, but if we have time I don’t mind photographing you in two! Compliment your outfits to where we’ll be shooting and consider adding accessories like jackets, jewelry, hats, etc. If you’re feeling stuck on what to wear, please send me a few ideas of what you’re thinking and I’m happy to help!
DO YOUR OUTFITS MATCH THE LOCATION?
Match your outfits to the season and weather that we’ll be shooting in. Think comfy sweater and boots for cold weather or no shoes and breathable clothes for the beach.
You’ll be interacting with each other for the photo shoot (maybe this means piggy-back rides, going for a twirl, or practicing your first dance). You want to be able to move around easily for those authentic images. Consider clothes that are “broken in" and are not too baggy or too tight. You want to be focused on your partner, not fiddling with your outfit.
COLORS // PATTERNS
I’M ALL ABOUT THE TONES! And colors can make or break a good editing session. But, don’t stress! Here are a few of my favorite colors/tones that pop really well with how I edit—> EGP Wear This // Pinterest Board.
I recommend sticking to earthy tones as super bright colors can be hard to expose for. If you're unsure, check with me first!
Big, loud patterns can be too much in photographs, but a small or subtle pattern on just one of you is the perfect touch. Do not wear logos or text!
Stay clear from cheesy props (unless it’s pizza, because cheesy pizza is always good). Remember that props can be timeless – your pup, snuggly blankets, a campfire, canoe, a coffee, a beer.
If you have props that you'd like to incorporate, let me know and we’ll make it natural! If you decide to bring your dog, please bring someone to handle your pup during the moments when we just want to focus on the two of you.
All of the above applies, but wear less. Not saying you should be in your birthday suit, but the photos will look more natural and relaxed if you’re in a t-shirt and jeans instead of a suit. Think cuddles on the couch, making dinner at home or coffee mugs at the breakfast table.
CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN/CUNNINGHAM FALLS
Cunningham Falls is an easy .5 mile walk to a rocky waterfall, and there’s a lake and many large rocks along the way. Think canoe, swimming or walking along the creeks. There’s also the Blue Ridge Summit Overlook here and is the shortest and least strenuous hike to a great overlook – about .5 miles.
Season : Summer, Fall (sunrise or sunset)
Downtown Frederick is where I live and I’ll probably ride my bike to your session! We can grab a coffee at Cafe 11:11 or a beer at Attaboy Brewery and than walk around town exploring the historic buildings. These beautiful buildings are filled with ivy walls, brick textures, cute street views, and more.
Seasons : Year round (sunrise)
GREENBRIER STATE PARK
Greenbrier State Park is located on South Mountain near Boonsboro. It has a serene man-made lake with a little beach surrounded by trees. Let’s go swimming, canoeing or have a picnic by the beach.

THE BRIDGE BY NICK’S FISH HOUSE
If you’re looking for more of an industrial, urban, grand look, this bridge would be lovely. It’s right by the water in Baltimore with giant arches. We can walk around under the bridge and check out the water as well.
Seasons : Year round (weekdays, sunset)
HARPERS FERRY//POINT OF ROCKS
HARPERS FERRY, WV
Harpers ferry has a lot of options for photo ops. There’s the water (we could check out point of rocks), the bridge that crosses over the water or ruins toward the top of the hill. And, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, there is a steep hike to the top of Maryland Heights which is one of the best overlooks in the state, towering over MD, WV, and VA.
Seasons : Spring, Summer, Fall (weekdays, sunrise or sunset)
Sugarloaf Mountain is about 10 miles south of Frederick, MD. The peak is unique with giant rocks that are framed with wispy trees. There is a parking lot by the peek with a little hike towards the top. The mountain is also surrounded by beautiful fields if you wanted to do some field frolicking.
Seasons : Spring, Summer, Fall (weekdays, sunrise)
BLACK HILL REGIONAL PARK
Here you’ll find a large green space with a lake for canoeing, paths along the water, beautiful roads with tall trees. Whenever I’m here at sunset, I love watching the last minutes of light peek over the tops of the trees. It’s an easy space for a nature-loving couple to walk around and explore.
Season : Spring, Summer, Fall (weekdays, sunrise or sunset)
This is always a great option if you just wanna get cozy! Shoot me an email about your in-home aesthetic, lighting situation and the vibe you’re going for.
Seasons : Year round (weekdays, anytime there’s light! Mornings tend to be the most special in-home light)
